Mooer GTRS Guitars Modern 810 PB review

The Mooer GTRS Guitars Modern 810 PB combines a familiar ST-style electric guitar layout with an active digital system built into the instrument. Its alder body, roasted maple bolt-on neck, rosewood fingerboard, and two humbuckers give it a conventional foundation. The GTRS Intelligent Processor System adds modeling, effects, presets, and USB recording without requiring a separate floor processor for those functions.

Available since September 2024, the guitar is listed at a price of 537. The finish is Purple Burst with a high-gloss surface, a burl poplar top, black hardware, and a brushed-metal black pickguard. Its listed weight is about 3.8 kg, or approximately 4.66 kg with the included gig bag. The package also includes a USB-C cable and hex wrench.

Construction and playing feel

The instrument has a 25.5-inch scale, a 42 mm bone nut, and a 305 mm fingerboard radius. The fingerboard has abalone inlays and 24 nickel-silver jumbo frets. Mooer specifies a satin finish on the roasted maple neck, which contrasts with the glossy body finish. A two-point tremolo, locking tuners, and strap pins complete the hardware setup.

The pickup configuration is HH, with a GTRS HMT-1N humbucker at the neck and a GTRS HMT-1B humbucker at the bridge. A three-way selector chooses the pickups, while volume, tone, and the super knob provide the main onboard controls. The super knob handles the main output and preset control. The supplied strings are.009 to.046 gauge.

Field feedback describes the guitar as convincing even with its digital effects switched off, with the pickups singled out as a strength. One player also reported that the high E string occasionally caught beneath the edge of the fingerboard. The issue was most noticeable with the factory strings and became rare after a restring. That is a useful setup detail to check when trying the guitar, rather than evidence that every example will behave the same way.

Built-in modeling and app control

The active GTRS Intelligent Processor System runs from an internal GLB-P1 lithium-ion battery. Mooer rates battery life at up to 10 hours per charge. The system offers 16 guitar simulations and 128 guitar effects. Four presets can be selected and edited from the super knob, and the free GTRS app serves as the editor for shaping those sounds.

In the reported hands-on experience, connecting to the app over Bluetooth was straightforward, and editing the four stored effects was described as simple. The same player praised the quality of the included effects, while noting that the instrument sounded strong without them. That distinction matters: the electronics expand the guitar's range, but the basic instrument still has to work as a guitar in its own right.

The app also provides a drum machine, metronome, and an 80-second looper. Tuning is available through the app or through Mooer's optional GWF4 wireless footswitch. The footswitch is not included, so wireless foot control should be treated as an additional purchase, not part of the standard package.

Recording and connections

A USB-C output supports USB OTG recording and battery charging. The guitar can record directly to a compatible smartphone or tablet, which gives players a portable way to capture ideas without first routing through a separate audio interface. Bluetooth 5.0 is also included for wireless connection to the app. The guitar has no MIDI pickup and no piezo system, so its digital capabilities come from the built-in processor rather than those pickup types.

The 6.3 mm jack can also be used with headphones for silent practice. The supplied information does not specify a separate headphone jack, so this should be understood as headphone use through the stated output arrangement, rather than as a claim about an additional socket.

Verdict

The Modern 810 PB makes most sense for players who want a playable HH electric guitar and an onboard sound-design system in the same instrument. The two humbuckers, tremolo, locking tuners, and conventional controls cover familiar electric-guitar needs. Modeling, effects, four editable presets, app-based tools, and direct USB OTG recording add practical options for practice and quick recording.

There are tradeoffs to weigh. The processor depends on its battery, and the wireless footswitch is optional. The high E string issue in one owner's account is worth checking during a test, especially before changing the factory setup. There is no hard case, though a gig bag is included. Based on the available specifications and field feedback, the guitar's strongest case is the combination of solid unplugged-to-processed usability and a surprisingly capable set of onboard sounds, rather than any one feature in isolation.

Where it shines, where it stumbles

What convinced me

  • Strong sound and well-regarded built-in humbuckers, even with the modeling effects switched off.
  • Built-in processor offers 16 guitar simulations, 128 effects, four editable presets, and app-based editing.
  • Includes a gig bag and supports USB-C recording to a smartphone or tablet.

What bugged me

  • The high E string reportedly caught under the edge of the fingerboard with the original strings; restringing made this much less frequent.
  • The wireless footswitch is optional, and the built-in system requires charging.

Is it the right one for you?

Good pick if

Ideal for players seeking strong humbucker tones, built-in effects, and app-based sound editing. A good fit for home practice and mobile recording with USB-C.

Look elsewhere if

Not ideal for players who want a guitar with no electronic system to charge or manage. Also less suitable for buyers who do not want to check the high E string and fingerboard setup.

What other players say

The reviewer found the guitar's sound and pickups impressive even before exploring its built-in effects, which were also described as surprisingly good. Editing the four stored effects through Bluetooth was considered straightforward. The main reservation concerned the high E string catching under the fingerboard edge, primarily with the original strings; this happened much less often after restringing. The reviewer otherwise rated the construction highly.
