Overview: Solar Guitars A1.7 Vinter Pearl White Matte

The Solar Guitars A1.7 Vinter Pearl White Matte is a seven-string electric guitar designed for modern players seeking aggressive tones, extreme tuning stability, and a distinctive presence both visually and sonically. Retailing at $1555, this instrument features a solid body made from alder, a neck crafted from maple, and an ebony fingerboard. The 24-fret neck uses a C-shaped profile and sports stainless steel super jumbo frets. The guitar centers its appeal on cutting-edge hardware choices: an Evertune F-Type bridge for mechanical tuning stability, two active Fishman Fluence Modern double-coil pickups, Solar locking tuners (18:1 gear ratio), and straightforward controls including a volume and tone (with switchable voicing).

Build: A Mix of Precision and Oversights

On paper, the Solar A1.7 Vinter sports high-end construction choices. The alder body offers a neutral tonal base, combining well with the bright, focused maple neck and the dark, fast-feeling ebony fingerboard. The 673 mm (26.5 inch) scale ensures tight low-string tension, popular among extended range players. The nut is made from graphite, and the nut width is 48 mm (around 1.89 inches), allowing comfortable chord and riff work across seven strings. Stainless steel frets mean low wear over time, while the hardware (locking tuners and Evertune bridge) targets reliable, consistent daily use.

User reports note some visible setbacks in quality control, atypical for a guitar at this price. Out of the box, owners report a loose output jack and slightly misaligned control knobs. Minor scratches and remnants of metal dust from fretwork were noticed on arrival, and some customers found factory setup lacking, with insufficient cleaning and even small finish flaws. All these issues are repairable but disappointing to find in a 1500-plus dollar instrument. Still, once cleaned and properly set up, users generally find no structural faults, just lackluster attention on final assembly.

Finish and Design: Striking but Sensitive

The Pearl White matte finish delivers strong visual impact and aligns with Solar's modern aesthetic. In person, the guitar matches its promotional images for most buyers, though several users report cosmetic issues emerging over time: strange spotting, minor paint chips, and a few inconsistencies around the neck joint. Given the price tag, some players expect a more durable or carefully applied finish. However, out of the box, most agree the guitar looks ready for the stage.

Tuning Stability: Evertune Delivers

The headlining feature of the A1.7 Vinter is the Evertune F-Type bridge. This innovative mechanical system maintains tuning even under changing conditions, making it ideal for recording, live sets, and extreme playing styles.

  • Multiple users praise the bridge's function, noting almost no detuning, even under temperature or humidity shifts.
  • Adjustment is precise, letting players set intonation and action to minute tolerances.
  • Setup can be a bit involved at first, but once dialed in, it removes most headaches related to tuning and string tension common with extended scale instruments.

Solar's 18:1 locking tuners complement the bridge, speeding up string changes and maximizing tuning security.

Sound: Fishman Fluence Modern Pickups

The electronics on the A1.7 Vinter are built around a pair of Fishman Fluence Modern double-coil pickups. These pickups are among the most popular active units for heavy music thanks to their clarity, tightness, and high output. They include a tone control with a built-in voice switching function, giving players access to classic ceramic active tones as well as a slightly more open "modern passive" voice.

  • Tone is powerful and aggressive, with deep lows and crisp highs, ideal for metal, progressive, and high-gain applications.
  • Through high-gain digital platforms, pickups remain articulate, though some users found the high-frequency content needed a touch of EQ adjustment around 4 kHz to avoid fizz.
  • Volume and tone controls are generally robust, but there are user reports of loose potentiometer nuts or connectors causing intermittent output or grounding issues, especially in the bridge pickup. While rare, these problems were solved under warranty for most cases but are a risk worth noting.

Playability: Built for Fast, Heavy Playing

Once set up, the guitar delivers a low, comfortable action across the fingerboard. The C-profile maple neck feels familiar but not too rounded, suited for both rhythm chording and lead runs. Super jumbo stainless steel frets facilitate smooth bends and reduce friction for fast left-hand movement. The extended 673 mm scale keeps the lowest string articulate without floppy tension, supporting aggressive down-tuning or tight multigenre versatility.

Case and Protection: None Included

The guitar does not ship with a case or gigbag, an odd omission at this price. Form-fitting cases are available from Solar, but buyers must factor in additional cost and logistics for transport security.

Verdict: High-Performance, Demanding Better QC

The Solar Guitars A1.7 Vinter Pearl White Matte aims at players wanting rock-solid tuning, contemporary sound, and a bold look. Hardware and electronic specs are genuinely top-tier for modern high-gain styles. But the number of reported minor faults, loose jacks, cosmetic flaws, uneven setup, mean it is best for musicians comfortable with basic maintenance, or those with a trustworthy technician. If you receive a flawless unit or are prepared to tidy it up, the A1.7 Vinter rewards with reliable performance and standout tone, though at this price, expectations for pristine quality control are entirely justified.

the specs are just amazing! fixed bridge that makes your life as easy as it gets, locking tuners, active pickups. just the whole thing is all out, and i love it!
from a 1555 EUR guitar you can actually expect a bit more. would still recommend it, if properly set up and with working electronics it’s really fun to play.
a year later and weird stains appear on the guitar, and the paint is a true disappointment. I can't recommend the product; for the price it could be much better.
