Overview: Premium Woods and Bold Design Choices

The Schecter E-1 SLS Evil Twin SBK targets players seeking blend of aggressive looks, versatile tones, and professional grades of construction. At $1599, it stands as a feature-packed, high-spec electric guitar built on a foundation of advanced materials and hardware. Its X-shaped body, made from swamp ash, comes finished in a smooth satin black. Visual details include bright white binding throughout, a touch adding definition to the design while hinting at its performance-oriented intent.

Neck and Playability: Ergonomic and Fast

One of the defining features is the neck construction. Using layers of maple, padauk, and walnut reinforced with carbon fiber, Schecter aims for maximum rigidity and long-term stability. The neck shape is thin and sleek, with a matte finish that resists stickiness even during long sessions, making fast runs and complex chord shapes more comfortable. Ebony forms the fingerboard, offering a slick and robust surface for fretting. The guitar sports 24 extra-jumbo size frets, with a 648 mm (25.5 inch) scale length, typical of many modern electrics suited for both standard and down-tuned setups.

  • Neck width at nut: 42 mm (1.65 inches)
  • Side position markers: glow-in-the-dark dots for stage visibility in low light
  • Overall balance: the body weight is substantial but not excessive, giving it a planted feel when played seated or standing

Hardware Choices: Reliability and Tuning Stability

The hardware is all-black, centering on the TonePros T3BT Tune-O-Matic bridge and T1Z tailpiece, delivering stability and sustain. No vibrato system is included, streamlining the guitar for players who want rock-solid tuning, especially important for heavy riffs or aggressive picking. Multiple users reported no loss of tuning stability even after repeated string changes and changes to alternate tunings, which underlines a key benefit of the reinforced multi-wood neck and precise hardware selection. There is no included case or gig bag, but dedicated options are available.

Electronics: Fishman Fluence as the Core Sound

At the heart of this model's appeal, the pickup set is a pair of Fishman Fluence Modern active humbuckers: a ceramic magnet version at the bridge for punch and clarity; an alnico magnet version at the neck for warmth and roundness. These are highly regarded for their wide dynamic range and the ability to shift between searing, aggressive distortion and smooth, clean passages by toggling voicing options. Users praise the pickups for their low noise, with one caveat: on the most overdriven amplifier settings, some noise may become apparent, likely more due to amp selection or cabling (most described them as quieter than equivalent passive units in similar guitars).

  • Bridge pickup: Fishman Fluence Modern (ceramic magnet) active humbucker
  • Neck pickup: Fishman Fluence Modern (alnico magnet) active humbucker
  • Voicing toggle: provides distinct tonal changes (while not a full coil split, it offers substantial diversity)

Tonal Performance and Versatility

User feedback consistently describes the E-1 SLS Evil Twin SBK as a chameleon within the rock and metal spectrum. The swamp ash body brings out a brighter, more cutting voice compared to darker-toned guitars. The Fishman set delivers tight, immediate response in heavy palm-muted riffs and maintains definition in lower tunings (from standard E down to Drop A reported with thicker strings and stable neck response). Clean tones are noted as crisp without excessive shrillness, and the guitar handles effects like reverb and delay particularly well, especially for soaring leads and ambient passages.

Players highlight:

  • Effortless playability even for smaller hands thanks to the thin neck profile
  • Wide range from aggressive, modern metal to classic rock and clean genres
  • Comfortable feel both sitting and standing, with not too heavy nor too light a body
  • Professional-level fretwork for buzz-free, smooth bends and fast movement along the fingerboard

Build Quality and Practical Details

Finish is a standout motif: the matte black looks premium, though it collects fingerprints more visibly than gloss. Minor production imperfections have been reported, small finish flaws or slightly long throws to reach the pickup selector switch, but none affected playability or sonic quality. The white binding and Roman numeral fingerboard inlays are noted as stylish touches. The instrument arrives well-set from the factory, though like most professional electrics, it may benefit from a tailored setup depending on string gauge and tuning preferences.

The instrument is aimed primarily at advanced players who demand a modern, high-spec guitar for rock and metal, though its versatility draws in everything from hard 80s riffing to smooth, glassy cleans. Several players made direct comparisons to more expensive models from competitors, consistently reporting satisfaction with the price-to-performance ratio.

Conclusion: An Elite Choice for Modern Rock and Metal

The Schecter E-1 SLS Evil Twin SBK carves out its own space in the market: bold looks, advanced hardware, and electronics that deliver true modern versatility. Ergonomics make it suitable for extended sessions, and the hardware inspires confidence whether at home or on stage. If you seek a professional take on the X-style shape, and demand both style and function, the Evil Twin SBK stands out as an instrument that justifies its asking price. The combination of stable construction, advanced pickups, and real-world player feedback places it as one of Schecter's strongest offerings in this segment.

This is extremely beautifull guitar, it feels nice, rigid and heavy in the hand. It has a nice mat finish overall with white binding all around it, the neck is not sticky and feels fast and thin.
The active Fluence pickups are very punchy and agressive but also can be sweet and warm due to voicing options that comes with the pickups.
It arrived perfectly set up, both for string height & intonation.
