Ibanez ICHI00-VWH review

The Ibanez ICHI00-VWH is Ichika Nito's signature take on the Talman, with a white matte finish and an SSS pickup layout. It has a 648 mm (25.5-inch) scale, 22 medium frets, a five-way pickup switch, and an Ibanez Mono-Tune bridge with tremolo. The listed price is 564. It has been available since May 2023.

The basic recipe is familiar, but the player feedback suggests this model's appeal lies in its combination of a distinctive body shape, comfortable neck, and flexible pickup selection. Several owners describe a light, well-finished guitar that feels good to play. Others report serious setup or assembly problems, so the experience appears to depend on the individual instrument.

Construction and specifications

The body is made from nyatoh, with no separate top. Ibanez lists a three-piece, bolt-on neck and a Wizard C profile. The specification information provided is inconsistent about the fingerboard: one listing calls it roasted bird's-eye maple, while the detailed specifications identify rosewood. The neck wood is also described differently, as roasted maple in one place and roasted maple with bubinga in another. Buyers should confirm the exact materials with the retailer before ordering.

The remaining fingerboard details are a 305 mm (12-inch) radius, mother-of-pearl dot inlays, and 22 medium frets. The nut is plastic, with a listed width of 41 mm (1.65 inches). The guitar comes strung with.009-.042 strings. Gotoh MG-T locking tuners and satin chrome hardware complete the hardware specification. No case or gig bag is included.

Owner impressions of the neck are generally positive. One player describes it as smooth and comfortable, while another says it feels similar to the necks on several Ibanez Q-series guitars. Reports on fretwork are less consistent: some buyers found polished frets and no sharp edges, while another reported poor fret ends and gaps around the fingerboard. Those conflicting accounts make an in-person inspection, or a clear retailer return policy, particularly useful.

Pickups, controls, and tremolo

The guitar has three ICHI-Sl pickups, master volume and tone controls, and a five-way switch. Owners describe the clean sound as usable and say the different switch positions provide a range of tones. One reviewer also found the pickups capable of handling heavier rock without extensive amplifier adjustments. Another had a very different experience, describing the sound as brittle with unpleasant overtones. Pickup impressions are subjective, but the gap between these reports is notable.

The Ibanez Mono-Tune bridge includes a tremolo. A buyer who used the bar frequently reported that the guitar stayed in tune, crediting the locking tuners. That is a useful real-world result, though it does not guarantee identical performance on every unit. Strings, setup, and how the tremolo is used can all affect tuning stability.

Setup and quality-control reports

Setup is the clearest recurring concern in the feedback. One owner received an instrument with string height measured at 6 mm at the 12th fret and improved it by lowering the bridge saddles. Another reported persistent fret buzz above the 12th fret and traced it to debris and hardened material beneath a poorly seated neck. After cleaning and sanding the neck pocket, the guitar played properly. That repair should not be treated as normal setup work for a new instrument.

Other reported faults include a loose piece of plastic in the electronics cavity, a sticking tone knob, a tuner that skipped, and marks or gaps around the fingerboard. These are individual reports, not proof that every ICHI00-VWH has such defects. Positive owners, by contrast, describe clean finish work, smooth frets, and a guitar that needed only a basic setup. The variation suggests checking the neck joint, controls, tuners, fretwork, and electronics as soon as the guitar arrives.

Verdict

The Ibanez ICHI00-VWH offers a distinctive Talman design, a comfortable Wizard C neck, three pickups, and a tremolo-equipped bridge with locking tuners. Owners who received well-finished examples praise its feel and value, and the pickup layout gives players several tonal options. The main caveat is quality control: reports range from flawless finish and easy adjustment to substantial fret, setup, and assembly issues.

For a prospective buyer, the safest approach is to confirm the fingerboard and neck specifications with the seller, then inspect the instrument promptly. A good example could be an appealing signature guitar at its listed price. An example with the problems described by some owners may require more than a routine setup, so reliable after-sales support matters.

Where it shines, where it stumbles

What convinced me

  • Comfortable roasted maple neck with a 25.5-inch scale and 22 medium frets.
  • Three single-coil pickups, a five-way switch, and a tremolo offer a broad range of tones.
  • Gotoh locking tuners and an Ibanez Mono-Tune bridge provide useful hardware at this price.

What bugged me

  • Customer reports describe inconsistent factory setup and, in some cases, serious fret or neck-joint problems.
  • The product details conflict on the fingerboard material, listing both rosewood and roasted birdseye maple.

Is it the right one for you?

Good pick if

A good fit for players seeking a distinctive Talman-style guitar with a comfortable neck and flexible single-coil tones. Also appealing to Ichika Nito fans and buyers who value locking tuners at this price.

Look elsewhere if

Less suitable for buyers who require consistently excellent factory setup or flawless quality control. Consider another option if you need a case included or require certainty about the fingerboard material before purchase.

What other players say

Customer feedback is mostly favorable, with reviewers praising the guitar's comfort, lightweight feel, finish, sound, and value. Some owners found it needed a basic setup, while others reported more serious issues involving fretwork, neck seating, electronics, or hardware. The reviews therefore point to a good feature set for the price but uneven quality control.

Quality, sound, feel and finish on mine was outstanding.
Thanks to the locking tuners it stays perfectly in tune even after using the tremolo bar quite often.
But the finish of the craftsmanship is really awfull on this on - I might have been unlucky.

It can suit a beginner who wants a versatile electric guitar, though the reported setup inconsistencies mean you may need help checking the action and fret condition.

What kinds of tones can its pickup system produce?

Its three single-coil pickups and five-way switch provide several pickup combinations, covering clean sounds and tones reviewers say can handle substantial distortion.

Does it include a case or gig bag?

No. The listed package includes neither a case nor a gig bag.

Does the tremolo stay in tune?

One reviewer reports that the locking tuners helped the guitar stay in tune through frequent tremolo use. Results can depend on setup and use.

What is the fingerboard made of?

The last word from the bench

The ICHI00-VWH pairs its Talman design with a familiar three-single-coil layout, a tremolo, and locking tuners. Positive reviewers praise its feel, finish, sound, and value, while some report poor setup or substantial assembly flaws. The conflicting fingerboard listings are also worth clarifying with the seller before purchase. It is a strong feature set for the price if you are willing to check the setup and condition.
