Harley Benton CST-24T Paradise Flame review

The CST-24T makes a strong first impression. Its flame-patterned maple top, body and neck binding, and Paradise Flame finish give it the dressed-up look many players seek in a double-cutaway guitar. The supplied specifications also list Paradise Amber Flame, so the precise shade may vary by listing or instrument. There is no case or gig bag included.

At a listed price of 255, the CST-24T offers a set-in meranti neck, a meranti body, and a roasted jatoba fingerboard. The arched maple top is a prominent part of its appeal. Owners frequently praise the finish and overall presentation, though reports mention occasional small paint or binding flaws. That variation matters: several players received clean examples, while others found cosmetic issues or more serious setup and hardware problems.

Neck, frets, and setup

The 635 mm scale, 42 mm nut, and C-shaped neck form a familiar, comfortable layout. There are 24 frets, made from stainless steel, and the 350 mm fingerboard radius gives the fretboard a relatively flat feel. Players often describe the neck as easy to move around on, with good access to the upper frets. The white dot inlays are understated beside the figured top.

Many owners received an instrument that was playable after tuning, with intonation and action needing only personal adjustment. Others report high action, fret buzz, uneven frets, a dry-feeling fingerboard, or nut slots that needed attention. These accounts do not point to a single consistent fault, but they do make a careful inspection worthwhile. Check the fret ends, neck relief, nut, and action when the guitar arrives. A basic setup may be enough, though some examples have needed fretwork or a technician's attention.

Pickups and controls

The CST-24T uses two Roswell HAF Alnico-5 humbuckers, a three-way pickup selector, and separate volume and tone controls. The push-pull function splits the coils, adding a brighter, lower-output option to the full humbucker sounds. That extra range is one of the guitar's most consistently praised features. Players describe the humbucker settings as full and punchy, while the split sounds can work for cleaner parts and lighter textures.

Tonal preferences differ. Some owners find the pickups clear and versatile across clean, blues, rock, and higher-gain settings. Others hear a darker or rougher character, or say the split sounds lose too much volume and fullness. Coil splitting also does not make a humbucker sound identical to a dedicated single-coil pickup. Treat it as a useful change in character, not a precise imitation.

Reports on the electronics are mixed as well. Many instruments work without trouble, while some owners have experienced a faulty selector, noisy controls, or soldering that needed repair. If you hear crackling or intermittent output, test the switch and controls rather than assuming it is part of the pickup sound.

Wilkinson tremolo and tuning stability

The Wilkinson WVPC tremolo is the main point to examine before buying. Some players report reliable tuning with moderate use after adjusting the bridge, nut, and springs. Others find the arm awkward to fit or tighten, or say the guitar goes out of tune when the tremolo is used. One recurring criticism concerns the bridge's interaction with the arched top, with owners reporting that it can tilt or fail to return consistently. Results appear to vary by instrument and setup.

This is not a tremolo to judge by appearance alone. Check that the arm fits securely, the bridge moves freely, and the guitar returns to pitch after use. If you rarely use a vibrato arm, the tremolo may be a reasonable tradeoff for the CST-24T's other features. If stable, frequent pitch changes are essential, the reported variation makes an in-person test especially useful.

Verdict

The Harley Benton CST-24T Paradise Flame combines eye-catching styling, 24 stainless steel frets, a comfortable neck, and flexible humbucker and split-coil options at an accessible listed price. Positive owner reports describe a rewarding instrument that can feel more expensive than it is. The caution is quality control: setup, fretwork, electronics, and tremolo performance are not equally consistent across reports.

Consider it if you want a versatile, set-neck guitar and are comfortable checking or adjusting an instrument after delivery. The included specifications do not list a case or bag, so budget for protection separately. A good example can be a compelling value, but inspect the individual guitar rather than relying on its finish or feature list alone.

  • Many owners report strong sustain, enjoyable playability, and good value at this price.
  • Stainless steel frets and a graphite nut are valuable features in this price range.

What bugged me

  • Setup and quality control vary between individual guitars; some arrive with high action, fret issues, or finish flaws.
  • The six-screw tremolo can be difficult to set up and may cause tuning problems when used heavily.
  • Tuners and electronic components receive mixed reports, with some owners replacing or repairing them.
  • No gig bag or case is included.

Is it the right one for you?

Good pick if

A strong fit for budget-conscious players who want a 24-fret guitar with a distinctive flamed finish and flexible pickup options. Also suits intermediate players comfortable checking the setup and making basic adjustments.

Look elsewhere if

Less suitable for players who need a tremolo they can use heavily with predictable tuning stability. Skip it if you want consistently flawless factory setup or do not want to deal with possible adjustments.

What other players say

Customer feedback is largely enthusiastic about the guitar's appearance, playability, tonal range, and value, with some experienced players comparing its feel favorably with more expensive instruments. The most consistent reservations concern variation between individual units, factory setup, tremolo function, and occasional tuner or electronics issues. Several owners were satisfied with the stock pickups, while others preferred to replace them or adjust their height. Overall, buyers who inspect and set up their instrument tend to report the strongest satisfaction.

Plays great out of the box. Only did some minor tweaking on the truss rod and bridge height to personal taste.
The best part is the sound.. I'm surprised by the stock pickups (Roswell) and I was very eager to try out coil splitting for the first time.
Overall total bang for your buck!! You get a beautifully finished guitar with a great array of sounds.

Before you decide

Questions players ask

Is the CST-24T suitable for a beginner?

It can work for a beginner, but reports of inconsistent factory setup mean some units may need adjustment. A player who can set up a guitar, or has access to a technician, will be better prepared.

Can the humbuckers be split?

Yes. The push-pull control provides coil splitting, giving access to thinner single-coil-style sounds alongside the fuller humbucker tones.

Is the tremolo reliable for regular use?

Experiences vary. Some owners report good tuning stability after careful adjustment, while others find the bridge difficult to set up or say it goes out of tune with use. It is a riskier choice for frequent, heavy tremolo work.

Does it need a professional setup?

Not necessarily, since some customers received well-adjusted examples. Others reported high action, fret buzz, or intonation problems, so check the setup and allow for possible adjustment costs.

Are the stock pickups worth keeping?

Many owners like their output and versatility, particularly with coil splitting. Others find them too bright, dark, rough, or less refined than preferred, so replacement is a personal choice rather than an automatic requirement.

The last word from the bench

This is a compelling choice for players seeking a visually distinctive, versatile guitar without spending heavily. The neck, fret access, and pickup options earn frequent praise, though the stock sounds are a matter of taste and the tremolo can be troublesome. Budget for a setup if needed, and inspect the instrument promptly after delivery. If reliable, frequent tremolo use is essential, consider a fixed-bridge alternative.
