Hagstrom Ultra Swede Mystique Burst

Hagstrom Ultra Swede Mystique Burst review

The Hagstrom Ultra Swede Mystique Burst is a set-neck electric guitar with a 24.75-inch scale, two humbucking pickups, and a coil-split option. Listed as available since February 2025, it is priced at $566. Its compact specification list points to a straightforward, traditional electric guitar layout, while details such as the Ultraslim D neck profile, long neck tenon, and individual brass bridge saddles give a closer look at its construction.

The finish is called Mystique Burst. One customer account describes exchanging a blue guitar for the purple version and receiving an instrument that looked like the guitar shown in the product photos. The reviewer praised its appearance and finish, as well as sound and playability, although those impressions are individual rather than controlled test results. That report gives a useful real-world perspective, but does not establish that every example will have identical cosmetic details.

Construction and neck feel

The body is basswood, also listed in the supplied specifications as linden, with a maple top. The set-in maple neck uses a long tenon and has an Ultraslim D profile. Hagstrom's H-Expander truss rod is specified for neck adjustment. These are concrete design details, but the provided information does not include measurements for neck thickness or a firsthand comparison with other profiles. The customer feedback does, however, describe the guitar as very easy to play.

The fingerboard is made from Resinator, with pearloid block inlays and 22 medium-jumbo frets. Its radius is 15 inches. The scale measures 628 mm, or 24.75 inches, and the nut is 43 mm wide. A black Graph Tech TUSQ XL nut is fitted. Taken together, these figures provide a clear reference for the playing surface without implying that the neck will suit every hand or playing style equally well.

Pickups and controls

Two Custom 62 humbuckers provide the main pickup configuration. The guitar also has a coil-split option, which can alter the pickup's output character. The specifications do not detail the switching arrangement for that function, so buyers should confirm its operation with the seller if a particular control method matters to them.

The control layout consists of one volume control with an R/C circuit, one tone control, and a three-way switch. A separate pickup selector switch is also listed in the supplied details. The customer report characterizes the sound as good, but does not describe specific settings, musical styles, or tonal comparisons. There is not enough information here to make a firm claim about output level or how the split setting behaves across an amplifier or effects chain.

Bridge, tuning hardware, and included items

Hagstrom specifies a Longtravel Tune-O-Matic bridge paired with its stop tailpiece. Six individual brass saddles are fitted. The machine heads are a Hagstrom design with a 15:1 gear ratio. These components give a useful overview of the guitar's fixed-bridge hardware and tuning system, though no measured tuning-stability results are available.

The factory strings are D'Addario EXP 110, in a.010 to.046 gauge set. A case and gig bag are not included. The sales listing identifies the instrument as one piece per sales unit and gives item number 612015. Those details are worth checking when comparing shop listings, especially if protective transport is part of the purchase plan.

Verdict

The Hagstrom Ultra Swede Mystique Burst offers a defined set of specifications at its listed $566 price: a basswood body with maple top, set maple neck, Resinator fingerboard, two Custom 62 humbuckers, coil splitting, and a Tune-O-Matic-style bridge with brass saddles. Its scale and nut measurements make the dimensions easy to assess before buying, while the reported excellent playability and good sound add a positive customer impression.

The main reservation is that the available feedback comes from one buyer and does not provide detailed sound examples or long-term reliability information. The supplied details also do not say that a case or gig bag is included. For players drawn to the Mystique Burst finish and this particular neck and pickup configuration, the Ultra Swede merits a closer look. Try one in person if possible, and confirm the coil-split controls and included accessories with the retailer before ordering.
