Fender Player II Tele RW PWT review

The Fender Player II Tele RW PWT is a straightforward Telecaster built around a familiar formula: an alder body, a maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and two single-coil pickups. Its Polar White finish and dark fingerboard give it a clean, high-contrast look. The listed price is 759, and the model has been available since July 2024.

Player feedback points to a guitar that can feel ready to play straight out of the box, though setup quality is not consistent in every account. Several owners describe clean fretwork, a comfortable neck, strong resonance, and the characteristic Telecaster snap. One buyer, however, needed professional adjustment to address string buzz, a persistent metallic overtone, fret leveling, and poor intonation. That spread makes a careful inspection and setup worthwhile, especially when buying online.

Construction and hardware

The body is alder, with no separate top, and the bolt-on maple neck has a Modern C profile. The rosewood fingerboard has white dot inlays, a 241 mm (9.5-inch) radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets. At the nut, the width is 42 mm, and the nut itself is made from synthetic bone. The 648 mm (25.5-inch) scale is standard for this style of Fender guitar.

One owner who normally prefers flatter fingerboards found the 9.5-inch radius comfortable after a quick setup. That is useful context for players concerned about moving from a flatter neck. The nut width also suited a player who described having smaller hands. These are personal impressions rather than a substitute for trying the neck, but they suggest the profile is approachable for a range of playing preferences.

The bridge is a six-saddle Telecaster design with strings passing through the body and block-style steel saddles. Fender ClassicGear tuning machines and nickel-and-chrome hardware complete the specification. There is no tremolo system. A three-ply black, white, and black pickguard contrasts with the Polar White finish. No case or gig bag is included, so budget for protection if you need it.

Pickups and controls

The guitar has two Player Series Alnico 5 Telecaster single-coil pickups, with a master volume, master tone, and three-way switch. The simple control layout keeps operation direct. Owners report a clear, defined sound and praise the pickups' response, including the familiar Telecaster twang. Feedback also describes the guitar as suitable for clean playing as well as country and rock parts.

The available comments do not provide measured output levels or detailed comparisons between switch positions, so the best assessment is practical: this is a conventional two-pickup Telecaster setup intended to cover the instrument's established range of bright, articulate sounds. Players seeking humbuckers, a more complex switching system, or onboard effects will need to look elsewhere.

Playability and setup

Comfort is a recurring positive in owner reports. One player described the neck as soft and easy to play, while another found the guitar's resonance and sustain notably satisfying compared with a previous Telecaster. Reports of tidy fret ends and clean finish work are encouraging, and one owner said the instrument sounded right without fret buzz immediately after unpacking.

Setup remains the main caveat. Another buyer reported buzzing on the low strings, a ringing overtone on the G string, high action after adjustments, and intonation that needed correction. A separate owner also found the strings set unusually high, but considered the issue fixable. These accounts do not establish a universal defect, but they do show why a proper setup matters. Check the action, fret condition, tuning stability, and intonation before settling on the guitar's feel.

The instrument uses Fender USA 250L nickel-plated steel strings in.009 to.042 gauge as its original set. String choice and setup can affect both feel and response, so players who prefer a different gauge may want an adjustment after changing strings.

Verdict

The Fender Player II Tele RW PWT offers a well-established Telecaster layout, useful everyday controls, and a neck that several players found comfortable despite its curved fingerboard radius. Its Alnico 5 pickups receive positive comments for clear tone and characteristic twang, while the alder body, rosewood fingerboard, and Polar White finish give it a classic appearance.

At 759, the value depends partly on the individual instrument and how much setup work it needs. Positive reports describe excellent finish quality and a satisfying playing experience. Less favorable feedback identifies setup problems that could add cost and inconvenience. If possible, test the guitar in person or arrange a professional setup after purchase. For a player looking for a direct, traditional Telecaster without extra switching or a tremolo, this model is a strong candidate, provided its setup checks out.

Where it shines, where it stumbles

What convinced me

  • Alnico 5 single-coil pickups deliver the characteristic Telecaster twang and clear, defined tones.
  • The Modern C maple neck, 9.5-inch fingerboard radius, and 42 mm nut width are described by owners as comfortable to play.
  • Owners praise the finish, fretwork, rosewood fingerboard, tuning stability, and solid feel.

What bugged me

  • Some examples may need a professional setup to address string buzz, intonation, fretwork, or string height.
  • The guitar has no body comfort cut, and one owner found its roughly 4 kg weight uncomfortable for longer playing.

Is it the right one for you?

Good pick if

A good fit for beginners seeking a simple control layout, intermediate players wanting a traditional Telecaster, and players who value clear single-coil tones. Also suits buyers comfortable checking or adjusting a guitar's setup after delivery.

Look elsewhere if

Less suitable for players who need a very light guitar or a body comfort cut. Consider another option if you require a case or gig bag in the box, or do not want to risk additional setup work.

The 9.5” radius was my biggest concern since I’ve been used to play flatter necks but after a quick setup I was surprised how comfy it is anyway
The quality Made in Ensenada has nothing to envy from American standards and right out of the box everything sounds perfect
Only issue is the setup, strings a mile off the board but this is fixable.

The last word from the bench

This Polar White Tele offers a straightforward control layout, two Alnico 5 single coils, and the familiar sounds buyers seek from the design. Customer feedback is largely enthusiastic about its tone, finish, playability, and perceived value. However, setup quality may vary, and a small number of buyers could face extra adjustment costs. It is a strong choice for players who want a dependable, traditional-style electric guitar and are willing to check its setup.
